Week 4 - Dreaming, Planning, Executing
Part
1: Major Education Goals (3 years)
-
In
the end of 2024, complete “the hard beginning” semester (Discrete Mathematic,
Computer Architecture, 2 CSUMB Courses) with grade B or above.
-
By
fall 2025, most of CSUMB courses taken are graded A with a few occasional B.
-
When
graduating in summer 2026, GPA is at least 3.5 and if possible, with the title Cum
Laude.
Part
2: Major Career Goals (3 years)
-
At
the beginning of 2025, rework on personal project “Wealth and War” and release the
first build by summer 2025.
-
Before
graduation in summer 2026, finish “Wealth and War” before working on its
expansion or another project.
-
During
2025 and 2026, look for internship opportunities, grab the chance and get the (part-time)
job to achieve one of the wild dreams: getting a career job before graduation.
-
After
graduation to summer 2027, find and secure a full-time position in game
developer (or related field).
Part
3: ETS Computer Science Test
After reading through the test
description, I see there are many materials I must study carefully. And looking
at the sample test, some questions I can answer from my current Discrete
Mathematic, Computer Architecture or future courses. I feel confident that I
can take the test with above average at this moment. But by that time, I can
pass the test with a good score if I study carefully.
Part 4: Learning Journal of This Week
This week I tried to apply the new
technique for notes taking, and it worked beautifully. Even though it took me
longer, my notes are clean and easier to review. Therefore, I decided to keep practicing
this technique until it becomes an essential part of my education and career. Despite
already knowing how to set up goals and writing down mine, this is actually a
great opportunity to review and confirm my goals and plans. For now, just like
all ingredients are laid on table, everything is set. I need to work on it step
by step, slowly and carefully to reach my goals one day.

Hi Yui,
ReplyDeleteI like how you have listed which grades you want from the courses in the program. The "hard beginning" is a funny way to describe those two classes. I definitely agree with you there too. I've taken two discrete math classes already and they can be confusing. I found my computer architecture class really fun though. We used assembly language and you get a nice idea of how the CPU processes information.
It's very impressive how you already have some game dev under your belt! Wealth and War sounds like an interesting game. Makes me think of 4x style games. Getting an internship should be a lot easier with those projects and then that internship should hopefully get you that job before you graduate. The dream indeed!
Hey Yui, getting a career job before graduation is an ambitious goal, however by achieving all of your other goals I believe it just might be achievable. Graduating with Cum Laude is a great academic goal to have that will look good on your portfolio, and I also plan to achieve that.
ReplyDeleteYour educational and career goals are so detailed and well-structured! I admire your focus on maintaining high grades while also balancing personal projects like 'Wealth and War.' Releasing the first build by summer 2025 sounds exciting! Pursuing internships will definitely be key to landing a job before graduation, and your determination shows that you’re on the right path. Keep pushing towards those goals, and I’m sure you’ll achieve great things in game development!
