Week 14 - Look back and wrap up with Software Design
Looking
back at HW01 – Jotto and thinking about what I have achieved, I discovered some
interesting aspects. They are interesting because those aspects are not from
coding, but from the document’s progressing.
First and foremost, similar with
many classmates, I had a problem with the prompt document as the instruction was
not clear. However, overcoming this obstacle was indeed a victory for me. In fact,
looking back now makes me realize maybe my instructor did it on purpose, since
not all prompts in this world are all well-documented. Together with what I
learned from this semester, I will have a rough graph or initial layout to visualize
what I understand about the project from reading the prompt. In addition, I can
keep track and make changes with ease while working on the project itself.
The second achievement is from the
output examples. After completing the file, matching the required outputs was a
challenge as they conflicted with the prompt and caused lots of confusion (but
not frustration). However, slowly working through and making changes to match
the output one by one, I realized this is another aspect of the working
environment. Our clients can describe the project but visualize it differently.
Many apartments have many aspects, from the project management to designing to
programming, which end up creating a document such as Jotto. Once again, combining
with my layout, graph and my own interpreted document, I will have a smoother
approach under similar circumstances.
And with those, the CST 338 –
Software Design is wrapped up (even though there is still a Final Exam and
Project 02). I learned a lot and experienced fun times with my group for Project
02. In addition, I also came up with an idea for an Android application, a
mobile game. For the next two months or so, I’m going to start working and
developing it. The application will be a small project and I don’t plan to
expand it furthermore yet.
