CST 336 - Internet Programming (Week 4)
Week 4 - Node & Express
Week 4 was heavily loaded due to Midterm, together with two assignments: Lab 04 and Homework 04. Moreover, the material from these two assignments were completely new, which were Node & Express. In other words, we had to switch from hard-coded, also known as front-end, to back-end development for our webpage. We use Command Prompt to install Node & Express in order to develop and run the website on local host. Of course, the problem with remembering the command lines was not a big deal.
So, Lab 04 was not a big problem either. Step by step, I managed to complete and adjust the website with some style. However, the biggest obstacle at that time was adding the website onto the server of Fast Comet. I was right for choosing the one that my professor is using, so that I can follow his instructions as well as asking questions when needed. Despites having the document and video, it took me three times to get everything upload and setup correctly to run the website. It was a nuisance, but knowing my website has a better design with back-end, and I can reuse the code using partials, the cost was rightfully judged.
Moving to Homework 04, I decided to rework on Homework 01 webpage, which is my Capstone Project. It was a great opportunity so that I can update my website and prepare for the long-term goals as well. Previously, I thought my Capstone Project webpage has a really nice layout and coding style. But during Homework 04, I realized how far I have become. Thankfully, my coding style was tidy enough, so the update and cleanup were not a problem either. The foundation is laid, now I just need to keep update my Capstone Project, together with this website.
